Working on poster design for a class...
I ran into this poster, which I did not realize was designed by Shepard Fairey!!! The poster was designed for the film, The Radiant Child, by Tamra Davis, about one of my favorite artists ever, Jean-Michel Basquiat. The film is a little over an hour and includes a 20 minute interview with Basquiat and Tamra Davis, which is scattered in pieces throughout the whole film. It is great, seeing Basquiat in this very intimate interview and the whole art movement that was going on during the late 70's and 80's in NYC.

Bruce Mau
I posted this on my class blog and want to keep an archive on it on my personal blog... maybe as part of my thesis work... so here it is.
So I want to share this with you guys because the more I think and think about this poster, the more I realize I want to do something relating to my country, Guatemala. The posters that I have posted below were all made by Bruce Mau Design. Bruce Mau is a canadian designer who now lives in Chicago and goes to many places giving speeches promoting social change. He recently came to Pratt, where he gave a very inspirational speech on how designers have a responsibility to make change happen and to promote social awareness.
The posters below are part of a campaign Bruce Mau Design worked on for Guatemala. It is a campaign called, GuateAmala, which means, love Guatemala, or Guate, which is what we call Guatemala :) It is meant to promote progress and love for our country which has had a very long and violent history. In a country like ours there have been many people who have tried to make a change, who then get stomped down by the people who are corrupt and only want to make a change for themselves. Guatemala is a beautiful country full of wonderful people. I really love these posters because of the colors and their energy, they are very descriptive of our country. This has been a very successful campaign in Guatemala, and although we still have corruption, the positive attitude and good people continue to make efforts in order to make changes and help make our country everything it can be.

The Virtual Water Project
This was posted on one of my class blogs and I think it is so beautifully made. The Virtual Water Project shows people the amount of water that goes into things that we consume on a daily basis. It is shocking to see the amount of water that we use and are not even aware of.
This project is meant to teach people about water consumption and spread awareness on reducing the amount of water that you consume.

What makes you happy..?
Dan Heath author of Made to Stick : Why some ideas survive and others die (together with his brother Chip Heath), interviewed by Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project had this as one of the answers to the questions he was asked,
"Is there anything that you see people around you doing or saying that adds a lot to their happiness, or detracts a lot from their happiness?
I read a brilliant paper recently called “If Money Doesn’t Make You Happy Then You Probably Aren’t Spending It Right” (written by Elizabeth Dunn, Dan Gilbert, and Timothy Wilson). [I have that very paper sitting on my desk right now!] It suggests ways we can spend our money in ways that yield more happiness (which I know is something you’ve also written about). One recommendation is to spend money on experiences rather than things. Here’s a good quote from the piece: “Experiences are good; but why are they better than things? One reason is that we adapt to things so quickly. After devoting days to selecting the perfect hardwood floor to install in a new condo, homebuyers find their once beloved Brazilian cherry floors quickly become nothing more than the unnoticed ground beneath their feet. In contrast, their memory of seeing a baby cheetah at dawn on an African safari continues to provide delight.” That has been a useful idea for me to keep in mind; every time I start thinking about buying a fancy new dining table or something, I think about how quickly I’ll adapt to it. Might as well adapt to the crappy table I’ve got."

I really liked this because I think traveling and things that will create great memories are one of the most important things you must invest your money on.

She called the destination "a bargain wonderland." A round-trip flight from New York cost Frommer $350, "decent hotels" charged as little as $35 a night, and a meal at a sit-down restaurant might set you back just $3, she said."

The bahamas country logo, created by Duffy and Partners is a great logo. It is a fantastic way to create an identity for a country in order to promote it.

Bruce Mau Design together with Fundacion Proyecto de Vida in Guatemala made this campaign in order to promote progress and love for Guatemala. The campaign posters are beautiful and they really evoke the culture of Guatemala. GuatemAmala, which means LoveGuatemala has had a great impact in my country, it has promoted pride and progress.

I am originally from Guatemala, born and raised :)
I thank my country and its culture for inspiring me artistically, from the diversity in its terrain, to its multicultural people. There is color everywhere and Guatemala is said to be "the land of eternal Spring," (which is totally true, its pretty much 70 degree weather there all year long).
So here is some information that I have gathered via internet resources on Guatemala to help you become a little bit more familiar with my country.
Located under Mexico and next to El Salvador and Honduras in Central America, with Belize on the Northeast side of it, here is a map of Guatemala.
And here are some facts, image and facts found on www.state.gov (http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/2045.htm)
Capital: Guatemala City
Population: 14.36 Million
Size: 108,890 sq. km / 42,042 sq. miles
Climate: temperate/tropical
